Did you try copying surfaceproperties_manifest.txt from the depot vpks to the SDKBase folder?

I can't change my install directory. Takes me through the first two "Yes, I Agree" sorta things, asks if I want a shortcut, then starts installing.
It installs to ;     C:\Users\ryanc_000\Downloads\SMOD Standalone
Any way to choose the install directory?

Read the directions. You need to put the installer in your sourcemods folder. Then run it.

Alright, now I'm getting vpk crashes. Is this normal?

EDIT 2:
Unable to load root\bin\filesystem_steam.dll
Doesn't exist, probably goes hand-in-hand with my vpk errors

The last three pages were just filled with your adventure to get SMOD working :P
I decided to search the pages for filesystem_steam with no luck.

So there's no Smod Standalone/bin folder?

Also, if you need to get files from HL2/Source SDK Base, use GCFscape and target the dir vpks. It'll actually work.

Certainly a bin folder, extracted the dir vpks and still get the .dll file error

Tbh, that's a Smod Standalone specific file. Which leads me to believe that either the install or download broke.

Well, in a sense that it does come with SMOD Standalone, yes, but it is also on Steam, if you search on google about it.

It is on Steam. But, Smod Standalone, to my understanding, uses a modified version of the filesystem, so that it doesn't have to be tied to steam in such a manner. You want the modified version, not the regular version.
