Hello.
After a long time I'm opening CBT [Closed beta test] for Crylife.
Here's a few Q&A you might want to know:

Q: Why open CBT [Closed Beta Test] ?

A: The mod was in CBT for some time now.
Now after I've got enough feedback I'm sharing it with other for fun and enjoyment

Q: What's the purpose of this thread then?
A: It's purpose is to collect information about CBT in one place, instead 15 separate threads.

Current version of CBT supports only "mission" maps, those can be chosen from "new game" menu - Halif-Life 2 campaign will get added back gradually as the development goes.
But before that happens, I want to get rid of all mechanical and gameplay bugs/issues.

Some things in this CBT are not polished yet:
- Hands - They need tweaking, model weighting and such
- Double pistols - I know everything about what I need to fix in them
- Cloak - Cloak mechanics are a bit dodgy right now

I'd like you to post your ideas, suggestions and bugs you encounter, as a reply to this post.
And if you're skilled enough you can create and submit your content - I'm looking at you Antivirus_404
(animations are final- I'm not going to change them, but you can mess around with anything else)

LIST OF KNOWN BUGS:(updated occasionally)

Dual pistols:
-Models not showing up properly
-Attachment menu not showing up properly
-Weapon not positioning properly during sprint -fixed

Shotgun:
-When switching to att menu after firing, the pump moves by itself

Other:
-Hopwire is only one-time use - although it still shows up as a selectable weapon
-Att menu clipping through walls when near
-various mapadd bugs (reporting them is not important, current release focuses on finding gameplay/mechanical bugs)
-No sound for falling damage
-In the middle of crouching in cloaked mode i get stuck and stop moving
-Crosshair is visible in the main menu

Question about the CS:S Addon, since I have the old version installed, should I delete the CSSBase folder and do a fresh install or can I keep it?

The game crashed the first time I attempted to go to the training course, is that supposed to happen? It worked the second time I tried.

One of the main problems in the training course is that you have no reserve ammo at all and no way to replenish it, I suppose that can be fixed with some mapadd magic

Also, no gravity gun?

An issue with the RPG. In the training course it didn't start with any ammo. I manually gave myself some via impulse 101, this causes me to have ammo for said RPG. The issue is, the ammo never runs out, you have a constant loop of one ammo, it is therefore infinite.

This isn't really a bug but a slight minor annoyance, the way you have the fast hud set up, any chance you can make it so you can select it by moving the mouse? Instead of having to move the mouse wheel? Thanks.

is non fixable at this moment, all it causes is console spam.

try pressing "=" (equal sign) on your keyboard - it should give you all possible weapons and equipment.
Avoid using impulse 101 since standard Hl2 and SMOD weapons has been removed from the game.

Repeat those steps and report if the rpg bug is still present.

I'll try to fix it with sourcemod - otherwise is not fixable

To switch the NHEV modes you can also use 1 2 3 4 keys while the menu is open;


"NHEV quick button"

press once for max-armour
twice = max-strength
3 times = max-speed
4 times = cloak



or use you can double tap specific keys:
x2 sprint = max speed
x2 jump while sprinting = max-strength
x2 punch key = max-strength
x2 crouch = cloak

I found a few things.

-Crosshair color changes to red when in strength mode but stays white otherwise. I'm guessing it's supposed to change everytime you switch modes, but i don't know, thought this might be a bug.

-In strength mode, you can super jump by pressing crouch for a second and jumping as an alternative to sprinting for a second and then jumping, again not sure if bug.

-No sound for falling damage. You might hurt yourself and not even notice. Maybe add some sort of visual effect for when you take damage and/or health is low.

-In the middle of crouching in cloaked mode i get stuck and stop moving. I can move again once i stand back up.

-I don't know what i did but the crosshair appeared in the main menu. I really just opened the chapter select menu ("New Game")

I'm going to change it in the upcoming patch- instead of crosshair, player hands will be "visualizing" currently selected mode, as of now it's not a bug

um I can't seem to get the Cry-Life CBT to work in the Standalone menu here's what it says when I try to launch it.....

"Failed to load the launcher DLL:
the specified module could not be found"

did I install the mod wrong?

Alrighty, I found a good few thing that could either be fixed or implemented, I hope it helps.
. I'm forced to stand up after deactivating cloak while crouching, or activating cloak while crouching.

. Fall damage should be reduced when super jumping.

. Max strength doesn't have any aiming bonuses these are a few ideas of how to implement it.
   ,reduced weapon sway when hip firing
   ,faster  hip firing sway recovery (centers the aim faster)
   ,less recoil
   ,less bullet spread
   ,less of a bullet spread rate
   ,or a faster fire rate for semi-automatic weapons like the small caliber handgun, or anti-material rifle

. While shooting and strafing, the camera gets tilted and can only be reset by shooting again.

. I personally would prefer the 12 rounded small caliber hand gun to be semi automatic when it's not dual wielded.

. Could you bring back the quick swap key that was present in HλLF-LIFE 2 and Smod, the one where you could switch between the previous weapon held and the current often in the place of the tab key (It doesn't have to be bound to any key I'd just like it to be available)?

 . You're able to reload after fully emptying a magazine, and swap between weapons while in the weapon attachment menu, with some of them it looks really odd.

 . I think the maximum armor mode need a buff, something like a higher armor capacity or faster healing property compared to without .

 . Make sure the RPG will have laser targeting implemented, otherwise the gunship engagements will turn into a major pain in the ass to deal with, especially with the health system being the way it is currently.

 . While sprinting and going into cloak simultaneously the weapon you hold or swap to will remain facing down (or in the hand guns cases facing up) and the only way to reset it is to sprint again.

 . While sprinting, you can crouch and go into a quick crawl which in my opinion would be awesome to keep. Could you please implement this or at least keep it in, I'd very much enjoy to play around with this in the final product.
 
. I think it be very useful to add the option to bind keys for the different armor modes directly to the key board.

I found another few things.

The bullet fly by noise is also caused by the shots that the player makes himself, so every time the player shoots their own guns they'll will hear that.

The super jumping through double typing space bar doesn't seem very reliable, I can't get it to work when I want it to, I often end up wrestling with the wall instead as I'm also in able to super jump when as close as possible to the wall or standing still.

There was a glitch I found that when I swap to a weapon I don't have on the mission maps It puts the weapon I was already holding in an odd position.

When I tried using the quick punch key in a mission map without maximum strength. I end up being forced to fire a bust from my gun instead and then swap to another weapon.

With some of the weapons, the scope type attachments (assault scope, and sniper scope) are sometimes out of alignment, the weapon that suffers the mast from this is the F2000. The shots and reticle still shoot and point where they need to but the players sight through the scopes with those weapons are higher than it should be.

The laser sight with the small caliber hand gun in single wielded mode is way of sights when aiming down sights. The issue is most prominent when aiming at far distance.

if you haven't replaced some of the models, i'll tell you something - flip the green channel of the normal maps on some things for the viewmodel, ESPECIALLY the hands. will make phong look much nicer

sorry for telling this SO late, i just came to realize that. if you haven't replaced any models i can help with that, got lots of spare time on my hands

Seems like the metropolice with the awesome armor actually make them too difficult to kill. I can easily kill them, because I consider myself fairly decent with headshotting, but for a player who isn't as experienced this seems a little too difficult. They're harder to kill then the main combine soldiers, hilarious enough.
(if this is changed in a difficulty setting, let me know, because I forgot to test that.)

The kick animation could be a little better.

The pistol when akimboed doesn't have another muzzleflash for the other pistol. (may already know this)

The current bullettime style is a little too easy.

Possibly use energybullet to add some bullet physics? Irrc someone did it in tactical. Is unnecessary, but it would be a nice touch.

Not sure if this would possible under the current system, but making strength mode use some more custom weapons to reduce spread, recoil, etc might work. You probably don't have enough space to do this. Would increase loading times as well. EDIT: Found out you are using all 30 slots.

Making weapons a little more necessary and polarized (I guess thats a word for it). What I mean by this is that the P90 should have a good bit of difference to the MP7 to make it a meaningful choice on which one to use, instead of personal preference. I have feeling if you are gonna have them there, may as well make them useful. I tried a concept like this with my model hacking thing. The SMG3 (that tmp thing) has an insanely high rate of fire, high mag size, low damage, and is inaccurate. The GL SMG (the famas thing) was pretty much the opposite with a grenade launcher. This made a meaningful choice in combat in which one to use.

If you're going to do the above, made draw times much faster for each weapon.

I would replace the elite model with something else. I dunno, I just hate it. Personal opinion.

EDIT: Have an idea to fix scope placement. You could also make the reference a bodygroup, and have another one which is enabled with the scopes that lowers the origin a little bit. Might not work, might be too much effort.

90% of that has been fixed in the latest version. -

Double post, but a suggestion.
I doubt you really want to go into that much effort for this, but it would a very nice touch if you made (irrc the name is skingroups) skingroups for the arms that showed the currently selected mode. I'm not sure if you change it through the console, but if you can, that would be pretty cool.

I did some time ago, but the problem is that when player uses the weapon it changes back to first skin, it's not much of a deal with semi-auto or bolt action weapons but, using fullauto weapon would cause skin to "flicker", and as far as I know  there's no way of fixing that.

ok, so I'm gonna answer all your questions here ;) :

Are there any updates: yes

Are they downloadable : no

Why : back in the past I've been updating files regurally for ppl to test out the mod, the problem was, uploading any kind of file takes a lot of time for me and making any version "release ready" takes even more time
The reason why I've stopped doing that, is because there was no feedback at all - ppl would just download the mod and never answer any of my questions; so I've stopped doing that and wasting my time on uploading.

There are however, a VERY closed builds for ppl that are helping my with it right now, and giving out their suggestions, but those are versions are for people that i know for a long time and I know that they are capable of modifing SMOD themselves.

Now to change the mouse sensitivity while in ironsights go to cfg/system/core_.cfg and edit line 55: "ironsight_sensitivity 0.75".
this is a multipler for sensitivity while using ironsights, which means that setting it to 1 will give you 1:1 ratio of mouse sensitivity using irons.


One more thing about the bugs that    djoffet    spotted:
Please post them in this thread, your opinion IS HIGHLY appreciated :D
And if I'll find some time I might release patch for this particullar version of Crylife

I did notice that if you loaded the hl2 campaign via console that you spawn with an assault rifle, and sometimes it won't shoot. You can't melee either, or switch weapons. Odd.

The pictures for each chapter are messed up, you probably already know.

Map de_dust_pcg does not exist yet you have an option to select it.
One of the zombie survival maps (the city) ends up spawning you without any weapons and the only one you could find is an error.

I'll keep you updated.

EDIT: The end of a rescue mission has a typo. "HOSTAGES WAS RESCUED"

After winning a hostage rescue, the game does not go back to main menu. Maybe it's because I left a hostage behind?

de_dust_pcg is not a map yet you can select it in New Game

The ghoulish model for zombies walk awkwardly.

some bugs I detect are when you are using mk48, and then you'll try to throw a grenade and then it won't throw but it works on other weapons.

plus when I'm using hopwire, sometimes after throwing hopwires, it changes into f2000 with mixed up attachments.
and lastly muzzleflash is a bit small, dual pistols doesn't have dual muzzleflash and in mk48 its got sufficient ammo.

I hope the cvar command "giveall" will be fixed . I mean when I typed it, it gives you ammo, but unlike impulse 101 that doesn't spread models all over the place  :)

I hope you got this one cause I'm totally fixing some other bugs in the game

Since it's SMOD, you can add custom weapons.

not that much, at least not using SMOD as base for this mod.
But if Firefight Reloaded or T.B.S.P will support custom weapons or open source I'm gonna port Crylife to newer engine.

As of now i can add total of 2 maybe 3 weapons and following attachments:
foregrip with flashlight
reddot sight
eotech
bi pod
acog


EDIT: I've said that I can fix bugs that are in the public release - not add anything to it, so if I'm gonna add something - I'm gonna add it to the upcoming release/RC

help i installed smod standalone 0.65 and css addon 0.35 in the sourcemods folder but then after i installed them this appeared "vpk_fixed.exe - Entry Point Not Found: The procedure entry point CreateSimpleThread could not be located in the dynamic link library tier0.dll. and put Crylife2 in the mods folder in the Smod Standalone

still now but i copied all source sdk base 2006 and pasted them into smod standalone in the sourcemods it worked but il also didn't because when i start Crylife2, it crashes hl2.exe crashes. i need to play Crylife 2 ASAP

IT WORKED NOW well... at least i just need someone to make a cfg on that "=(equal)" button so that it can work properly on my crylife 2

sssoooo i put my crylife 2 files in the Crylife folder on sourcemods and then replacing game info with 1.8.5 when i start it, it worked then if i type in campaign maps in console i have only 1 hands no 2  hands like one invinsible handso i need someone else's save to get it work anybody can give me one of the savegames, now pleaasee

one hand bug if i start on campaign maps and if i sprint it's locked in sprint animation can't shoot cant customize except if i go into training course i have 2 hands
