Hello everyone.

Well, it's sad to say it but SMOD FIREFIGHT will no longer be actively supported by me. The reason is because I am way too busy working on other projects (FIREFIGHT RELOADED, SURVIVOR) and I don't find interest in the project that much anymore.

However, I have released what I have been working on. The things I have promised are not added in since I had no time to work on them. However, the biggest addition I feel is Sourcemod/Metamod: Source being added into the mod, allowing for the addition of more things beyond what the mapadd offers. This was originally going to be cut, but I left it in anyways.

It was fun making this project, and I will always remember it as the reason why I got back into Source Engine coding for FIREFIGHT RELOADED, SURVIVOR, and beyond. Feel free to check out FIREFIGHT RELOADED on Steam if you want a actively updated mod like this one (with an upcoming multiplayer update and upcoming Workshop support). Cheers!  ;)

What is SMOD: FIREFIGHT?

SMOD FIREFIGHT is a mod built off the SMOD core that not only utilizes the Mapadd LUA system, but adds new weapons, and more playermodels. It mainly focuses on implementing a Survival/Firefight/Zombies gamemode into SMOD while keeping SMOD's core gameplay intact.

PLAYER MODELS:

SMOD: FIREFIGHT uses player models from a few Valve games, such as Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, and Day Of Defeat: Source.

WEAPONS:

The weapons in SMOD: Firefight would be ones made by the BSNOOCH community from the Community Releases. Don't worry, credits will be given.

MAIN MODES:

ZOMBIE SURVIVAL:

- Fight waves upon waves of Headcrab Zombies, Fast Zombies, Poison Zombies, and Zombines.
- Collect dropped weapons and powerups.

COMBINE FIREFIGHT:

- Fight waves upon waves of Metropolice, Combine Soldiers, Combine Elites, Combine Aces, and Camo Combine Soldiers.
- Collect dropped weapons and powerups.

HEADCRAB SWARM:

- Fight waves upon waves of Normal Headcrabs, Fast Headcrabs, Poison Headcrabs, and Kamikaze (explosive) Headcrabs (npc_kheadcrab).
- Collect dropped weapons and powerups.

XEN INVASION:

- Fight waves upon waves of Normal Headcrabs, Fast Headcrabs, Poison Headcrabs, Houndeyes, and Bullsquids.
- Collect dropped weapons and powerups.

ANTLION ASSAULT:

- Fight waves upon waves of Antlions and Antlion Guards.
- Collect dropped weapons and powerups.

FIREFIGHT RUMBLE:

- Fight waves upon waves of a large army built out of assorted enemies.
- Collect dropped weapons and powerups.

ZOMBIE SURVIVAL 2:

- Fight waves upon waves of SMOD Zombies (npc_zombie2).
- Collect dropped weapons and powerups.

GAMEMODES:

These are additional modes that go with a main mode. For example, a match on dm_lockdown would have Combine Firefight with the gamemode Score Attack.

HEALTH CRISIS:

- In this mode, you have a starting health of 100 instead of 200 (the default health)

DOUBLE TROUBLE:

- The game spawns twice the enemies rather than once.

HARDCORE:

- Less health, less suit power, no respawns.
- HARD/VERY HARD DIFFICULTY RECOMMENDED.

REALISM:

- Replaces the default aiming system with a Red Orchestra-style aiming system.
- Weapon recoil is more realistic.
- No bunny hopping.
- No shooting while sprinting.
- The Combine Sniper Rifle/SVD is less Counter Strike-like and more realistic.
- Bullet penetration is enabled.
- NPC ragdolls have violent convulsions.
- The player's death camera is in first person instead of third person, and time slows down once the player has died.

HARDCORE REALISM:

- HARDCORE + REALISM = Insane difficulty.

PERKS:

Perks are what you get after killing a rare enemy. They give the player better abilities and also help the player in certain situations.
However, perks are randomly chosen, which mean that they have a 1 in 6 chance of spawning. Don't worry, they are common!
Perks also are removed when you die in-game, so DON'T DIE and you'll keep your perks.

EXTRA HEALTH AND SUIT POWER:

This gives you an extra Medkit and a Battery. Perfect if you are low on health.

HEALTH REGENERATION:

This gives you health regeneration that can fill all the way up to your max health. (Normal = 500, Health Crisis = 350, Hardcore = 200)

INFINITE AUX POWER:

This gives you infinite aux power, so you can run around the place and not run out of breath. Also, infinite bullet time. It's cool.

INFINITE AMMO:

This gives you infinite ammo, however after you get this perk you can no longer pick up ammo packs or reload, but you can spam grenades.

1. First of all, download SMOD Standalone 0.30. Here's a link to it: http://bsnooch.com/forums/index.php?topic=1360.0
2. If you don't own Half-Life 2, buy it on Steam and install it.

No, it's not recommended. it's designed to be inside sourcemods folder, because It still uses some of Half-life 2 files (optionally CS:S HL2:DM).
So if you move it somewhere else, "SearchPaths" in gameinfo.txt will mess-up and you won't be able to play SMOD, or launch Half-LIfe 2 campaign (for example)

You don't need to own any game with the exeption of HL2 (SMOD Standalone). The models are included by default.

When I was testing SMOD: FIREFIGHT, moving the directory still allowed the mod to work correctly with no problems at all.

Okay, I've been playing this for a while. My time playing this pretty much sums up like this:

This has lots of potential.

I dropped into this game every once in a while, when there was nothing to do. It provides a good dose of fun, cause let's admit it: it's always fun to run around like in the old days of PC gaming and shoot enemies that are everywhere.

The arsenal of the game is pretty well-chosen too, but I think it lacks some guns - there is only one shotgun in the game and there are lots of single-shot rifles too, which don't make sense. Most of the time you engage your enemies in relatively close-quarter distances, so shotguns, SMG's and full auto rifles would be a better choice. Unfortunately, you don't have much to choose from. Try removing some of the semi auto rifles and add some more full-auto weapons (Counter-Life's saiga should spice things up)

Now I've ran into another problem where the NPC's, more specifically the super soldiers (the green ones) have such pinpoint accuracy that it simply breaks the game. If they have a Kar98k, that's it, you're dead. They can hit you from almost the other side of the map in the head, which deals massive damage, plus, they shoot really rapidly. This, coupled with the damage effect makes you unable to do anything about it and in the end, die. This really pisses me off, especially when you're running around, killing everyone fairly well and stocking up HP, and then you meet this Kar98k guy and then you're dead. Solution? Well, as I've suggested before, you should remove the Kar98k completely, or make the super soldiers simply not have it at all. A similar problem is with the minigun - as soon as the super soldier comes out of a corner, he immediately starts shooting at you, and most of the time it's headshots. Since the firerate of the minigun is massive and the accuracy of the NPC's is pinpoint too, you can die extremely fast no matter how much health you have.

Now I do realize that this is a fucking alpha and lots of stuff are unfinished (maybe you even have this on your mind), but spare ammo definitely needs to be increased. Pulse ammo needs to be bumped up slightly I've noticed, or else the player will be able to stock up lots and lots of ammo and be able to camp in a corner, which is not what this mod is about, I think. Spare 357 ammo definitely needs to be bumped up though.

Also, decrease the amount of bloom, will you?

Well, that's about it. It's kind of surprising how good this mod is, even for an alpha. Had lots of fun playing this, and I surely will play for some more.

The reason I decided not to add 4 Player co-op is mainly because of this post:

When I helped out Mxthe with SMOD: Troopers (Multiplayer SMOD), we came across problems with certin weapons crashing the host (I think it was the shovel) and the chat didn't work no matter how hard he tried.

Mxthe made an admirable effort for a MP SMOD, but it really needs to be emphasized: SMOD is not built for multiplayer. There's no real backend support to speak of, a number of features of SMOD don't work correctly or at all in MP, no chat, questionable netcode, etc. It's little more than a novelty and I never really was for MP SMOD due to how imbalanced its weapons are, never mind how features like Bullet Time would work.

Plus, has any Source MP mod ever pulled in a sustainable player base? The only two I can think of are Garry's Mod and Insurgency. Virtually no other mods kept a decent-sized player base past the first few months compared to the GoldSrc mods of ye olden days.

I also removed it due to the fact that SMOD Standalone does not properly support building a multiplayer server.

However, there is a mp_start.cfg still in the files. You can execute it with the "exec" command or you can just use the "start_smodfirefight_server" command. However, it WILL be buggy, and it also may crash your game.

Anyways, today I will announce the release of SMOD: FIREFIGHT Public Alpha 1.1.0.  This version includes some balance changes, as well as the addition of 3 more weapons that can be used by the Player or Combine Soldiers. Also, there's a huge surprise inside of the update. I will not tell you all what it is until I release it later today.

Good guess, but it is not HL2: Survivor content.

EDIT 1.1.0 RELEASED!

1.1.0 (release 2, version Public Alpha)
- Added the Alyxgun, the AK47, and the Grease Gun to the list of weapons that can be picked up and used by the player.
- Nerfed the amount of health and battery pickups from 35 to 25.
- COMBINE FIREFIGHT: Combine Soldiers, Combine Elites, Camo Combine Soldiers, and Combine Aces now use the AK47 and Grease Gun (Combine Soldiers will only use the Grease Gun.)
- COMBINE FIREFIGHT: Metropolice now can use the Stunstick as their default weapon.
- ZOMBIE SURVIVAL & HEADCRAB SWARM: Zombies/Headcrabs no longer have speed bonuses on spawn.
- Gamemode names are now localized.
- Added 2 new gamemodes: XEN INVASION and ANTLION ASSAULT

1.2.0 (release 3, version Public Alpha)
- Enabled the setting "Can fire while sprinting" by default.
- Lowered the amount of bloom on the Medium, High, and Ultra graphics settings (can be set in the in-game menu).
- COMBINE FIREFIGHT: Combine Aces now have a much rarer chance of spawning.
- Changed the kick models (except the default) to have the SMOD2 kick animations so the animations are more consistant with the default model.
- You can now hold up to 15 frag grenades.
- Added frag grenades to the entity list.
- Added the Bullsquid to the console's auto-complete list.
- HEADCRAB SWARM: Explosive headcrabs now have a much rarer chance of spawning.
- Added most of the weapons from SMOD: Redux Version 8 to both the weapon drop roster and the combine weapon roster.
- Moved the Pulse machine gun from the Shotguns bucket (4) to the Machine Guns bucket (3)
- Added phong to the Grease Gun.
- Added 2 new Double Trouble missions on Xen Invasion and Zombie Survival.

BTW, why not check out my red dot smg1 mdl here http://www.mediafire.com/download/f1cbputx4auc8ce/smg1.zip if you use default hl2 smg1 weapon.
Updated on the basis of Onemanshow's awesome hl2 fixed model, this new smg1 MDL features a unique "reverse" use of Real Time Scope alpha setting and the Valve's neat animated scroll texture, ensuring the Red dot Sight to be waaaay more realistic than any other... Damn, commercials.
Anyway, modify it the way you want. If you really want it.
