The causes of SMOD crashing?
« on: May 21, 2011, 04:49:51 PM »
If there is one big, big con I have to lay down on the SMOD games, it's their liability to crash more often than it should, ESPECIALLY Redux, which also happens to be my favorite SMOD, so that hits hard. I've been trying what I could to solve the crashing, troubleshooting constantly, but I can't seem to figure it out. Most of the time the game crashes when I load up another map. Does the memory fill up constantly until it crashes or something? I really don't have that many effects turned on either.

Did you try to disable rt scope? It's very unstable in SMOD. (Probably because of copy-pasted code, which lacks many null pointer checks.)

How exactly do I disable that?

r_subviewcam if I'm not mistaken. But that will only help if you have weapons with "dynamic"/"RT"/"3D" scopes - it'll basically stop working.

Try install default SMOD and see if it crashes.
